The simplest answer is, a booster is just a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine or the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in order to prolong immunity against the virus.

When can you receive the booster?

For individuals that meet the above criteria, the additional dose can be administered 28 days, or 4 weeks after the completion of the two dose vaccine schedule.

Can you mix and match vaccines?

Per CDC guidelines, persons who received either Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine should receive the same vaccine for a third dose.
